Vitesse Arnhem does not only move with football on the field, but also far beyond! Vitesse is deeply routed in society: the region of Arnhem and Vitesse need one another. That has been the case since its establishment in 1892. Put differently: football moves and connects since 1892 in Arnhem and beyond.
Vitesse feels a strong social responsibility. We believe in the power of football! Football can reach people and make them move. For this reason, the Vitesse Betrokken Foundation was established by Vitesse in 2007. Vitesse Betrokken is the social heart of the club. The purpose of the foundation is to be socially active in the region of Arnhem by using the power of football in our community activities. The societal role refers to improving living standards of individuals, groups, or communities. The foundation also aims to connect (potential) Vitesse-supporters with the club and to maintain and enhance this connection, all based on mutual commitment.
In order to give meaning to our societal role we focus on projects and activities based on one (or more) of the following pillars: health | sportsmanship and respect | talent development. Our main target group is youngsters and disabled people, but we focus on supporters of middle-aged and elderly people as well.
Pillar 1: Health
Football is not only fun, it is also healthy and brings people into action. Literally. Together with our players, accommodation and the yellow-and-black colors of Vitesse we make people move. Vitesse Betrokken supports and organizes activities that promote movement and a healthy lifestyle. All move-projects that belong to the pillar Health aim to make and keep participants enthusiastic for sport.
But the pillar Health contains more. Not for everyone a healthy life is granted. Vitesse also supports people who unfortunately are sick or have been sick. For example, the Vitesse-selection annually visits the children’s department of our partner hospital. And together with another local foundation we collect money that is used for buying toys for oncological care centers.
Pillar 2: Sportsmanship and respect
Vitesse Betrokken gives sportsmanship and respect high priority. Encouraging fair play is therefore a pillar in many of our activities. The goal is to reduce undesirable behavior on and around the field and in the stadium. We make youngsters aware of their own role and responsibility in the community they live in and reward positive and respectful behavior.
Pillar 3: Talent development
Everyone has a talent. That’s what we believe in. In our activities, we use the power of football and Vitesse to (re)discover and develop the talents of young people. Time after time, it appears that with the inspiring and unifying power of football participants are mobilized and self-confidence grows. In addition to developing the talents of our participants, we use talents and expertise of other clubs and partners. Therefore, we are for example a proud member of the EFDN, the European Football for Development Network.
An demand-oriented and open attitude are relevant. We work together with our societal partners. In collaboration we strive to serve society by using the strengths of Vitesse Arnhem. We use our own identity within projects by making use of the players of Vitesse, the club colors of yellow and black, the GelreDome stadium and the training accommodation Papendal. These symbols are used in our activities towards supporters, for finding and retaining young people and developing and exploiting or (re)discover the talents of young people.
